Too much. Too much grief for one little island. Too much grief for one people to burden alone. There’s not much that we can do from our living rooms, but as I sit here watching my precious little bit happily eating his oatmeal, blissfully unaware of the tragedy that has taken the lives of thousands and thousands, I think about the crushing weight of the loss the people of Haiti must be feeling. I cannot even begin to fathom that much grief. I can’t do much, but I can do this:
I can text “disaster” to 90999 to give $10 to Compassion’s disaster relief program. They will be working directly with the local churches who know where these families live and will give immediate relief to them.
I can also give to the Red Cross, by texting “Haiti” to 90999 to donate $10.
Your phone will blow up with texts. Send the first, then reply with yes, then reply with stop and it will be done. So simple.
$10 or $20 might not seem like it will do much good. And at times like these, it might seem like a sacrifice. It might mean going to chick-fil-a less next month, it might mean replacing meat with beans a couple more times this month, but really all of that seems so doable.
If not us, then who? Join me, will you?
